Hearing Aid Phones Guide

Hearing Aid Phones - Phones for the Hearing Impaired Designed To Increase Clarity and Decrease Interference

Phone conversations are part of everyday life and something most people take for granted.  Talking on the telephone is not so easy for those people who are hard of hearing.  It is important for them to find the right hearing aid phones that offer the best clarity with as little feedback as possible.  If you have a difficult time trying to hear a ringing phone, there are phones that will amplify the sound of the ringer.

These phones also have a blinking light indicator so that you can see when the phone is ringing.  If you have a call waiting option with your phone service, the light will also blink when another call is coming in.  Most telephones will let you adjust the volumes for the ringer and the speaker.  Some models have a self adjusting feature that will reset the phone to average sound levels for others in your household.  Amplified phones cost between $50 and $200.

Telephone amplifiers are another of the types of hearing aid phones.  The amplifier is an external device that is used with a standard telephone.  Some of the new models are compatible with cell phones.  Telephone amplifiers start around $25.

Headsets and earpieces can also aid the hearing impaired with their telephone conversations.  They are hands-free and very easy to use. Because they are so small, they are quite portable.  Some of the earpiece devices will plug into certain cell phone models.

Text phones are even another of the types of hearing aid phones that display the speaker’s words on a screen.  This device is especially helpful for those with severe hearing loss.  Text phone models vary in size.  Some are small and transportable and others will work with cell phones.

A number of hearing aids have a telecoil function that allows the user to talk on the phone by using a magnetic field.  The telecoil is turned on by pushing a button.  It is designed to cut down on background noise while the user is talking on the phone.

New improvements in cell phones have made them much easier for the hearing impaired to operate.  Older cell phone models tended to interfere with cochlear implants and hearing aids and the user would hear constant humming or buzzing caused by distortion and interference.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has set mandatory requirements that all new cell phones to be rated on their interference with hearing aid devices.  There are many different hearing aid phones available today that offer those that are hearing impaired the ability to have clear telephone conversations while at home or work and even when using their cell phone.
