Hearing Aids Brands - Something for Everyone

Anyone that’s recently been diagnosed with any type of hearing loss has a lot of questions. These questions range from “Will I still be able to participate in the activities and hobbies I love with this condition?” to “How in the world do I go about choosing a doctor, hearing plan, or assistive hearing device?”

These are all valid questions, and it’s important that you fully research all of your options before choosing a hearing care professional or a hearing device. One of the most overwhelming parts of this process will undoubtedly be distinguishing the difference between all of the available hearing aids brands being marketed today.

The biggest differences between hearing aids brands are usually price, style, and power. When choosing a style of hearing aid, remember that the closer the hearing aid is seated to the eardrum, the more pronounced the sound is going to be. The most common style of hearing aid on the market today is the behind the ear or BTE style.

This type of hearing aid sits behind the ear and usually has a thin clear tube that reaches up over the ear and into the ear canal. Many BTE styles are pretty small and inexpensive, and can be very discreet.

Other types of hearing aid brands will offer in the ear, in the canal or completely in the canal styles of hearing aids. These types of hearing aids sit in the outer ear or are placed in the inner ear, and are often the hardest to detect when being worn.

Keep in mind that if you choose to go with an in the canal or completely in the canal style of hearing aid, they will require the most amount of fitting, because they will have to be formed to fit comfortably in your uniquely shaped ear. Because they require extensive fitting, and are the most compact technologically, in ear hearing aids are often the most expensive.

When choosing between different hearing aid brands, be sure to take all aspects of the company into account. Like how long they’ve been in business, what kind of a warranty they offer, or if they offer a trial period during which you can try out their product in everyday situations.

As with any type of health related decisions, it is important to seek the advice of a qualified hearing care professional every step along the way of this process. Don’t be afraid to ask questions until you fully understand the product you’re considering.
